1. What have you found most challenging as a leader?

The greatest difficulty as a leader is to develop talent and help people understand their potential. Dealing with people and not having them recognize their own abilities, talents and strengths becomes an obstacle to personal, family, professional and organizational growth.

2. How did you become a leader? Can you please briefly tell the story?

In 2000 I traveled to Bolivia to work as a volunteer in a church helping the communities. While there one of the ways to achieve the purposes was to talk to people, my biggest difficulty has always been to establish those relationships. We worked in pairs. My leader noticed that I only intervened as needed, I had no initiative to start something alone, so he helped me to understand my potential and develop it, so he assigned me to a partner who did not speak Spanish so that I would be the one to help him learn the language and lead the activities.

3. How do you structure your work days from waking up to going to sleep?

I like to keep things as simple as possible, that allows me to improvise or adjust according to the situations of the day. When I get up I prepare breakfast and take the kids to school and my wife to work. I come home, read and then check email or WhatsApp and respond. I do a couple of work activities. At noon I prepare lunch listening to a podcast. In the afternoon I develop the work I have scheduled and in the evening I bring my kids from school and my wife from work. We read together and go to sleep.

4. What's a recent leadership lesson you've learned for the first time or been reminded of?

I was recently reminded of the importance of helping others reach their potential, every team member, no matter what position they hold, is important to the company. So, every member of the organization should be valued and encouraged to develop their potential in all aspects. A leader is someone who guides his team in the back, the leader sees what his team does not see, motivates and develops their skills.

5. What's one book that has had a profound impact on your leadership so far? Can you please briefly tell the story of how that book impacted your leadership?

The book of Mormon. In this book you can see how each leader in his time had to suffer to help his people. But after these difficulties they guided and helped their people to reach their objectives. This is how I am motivated to see how I can help my team.

6. If you could only give one piece of advice to a young leader, what would you say to them?

Worry about people before worrying about the company. If your team is good, your company will be good.

7. What is one meaningful story that comes to mind from your time as a leader, so far?

One thing I remember is the discouragement that comes when things don't work out. It is very difficult when there are no solutions in sight but keeping a clear mind and analyzing all paths shows that there is always a way out.
