1. What have you found most challenging as a leader?
As a leader in the fashion and entertainment industries, one of the most significant challenges I’ve faced is being heard and taken seriously as a woman in rooms often dominated by powerful male figures with strong egos. Navigating these dynamics has taught me the importance of leading with a strong mindset, clear communication, and unwavering confidence. I’ve also learned to maintain composure and avoid being perceived as overly emotional, ensuring that my voice and vision command respect and attention in any setting.
2. How did you become a leader? Can you please briefly tell the story?
I began my career as a junior publicist in my early 20s at FYI PR, managing multiple accounts. This experience laid a foundation for my transition to an in-house position where I could bring my creative ideas to life. A pivotal moment came in 2004 when I worked on a collaboration between Patricia Field and Rocawear for the House of Field collection.
The success of this collaboration led Rocawear to expand into the women's market. As one of the key figures overseeing the launch, I was offered the position of Director of PR & Marketing for Rocawear Women under Signature Apparel Group.
I held this role until 2011, during which Rocawear was sold to Neil Cole at Iconix Brand Group. Throughout my tenure, I played an integral part in the relaunch of Fetish by Eve, Levi's Loungewear, and Artful Dodger. These experiences solidified my leadership skills and expanded my influence within the industry, allowing me to take on more strategic roles in my business dealings.
3. How do you structure your work days from waking up to going to sleep?
As a full-time mom, my mornings start with fulfilling my motherly duties—a role I truly cherish. Once that part of my day is complete, I shift gears and dive into my to-do list, prioritizing tasks based on deadlines and importance. In the fashion industry, unexpected challenges often arise that demand immediate attention, but I ensure my list stays updated and my focus remains on what’s most critical. This balance of structure and adaptability keeps me on track and allows me to manage both my personal and professional responsibilities effectively.
4. What's a recent leadership lesson you've learned for the first time or been reminded of?
In November 2023, I joined GBS Trend as Director of Partnerships, a role I held until my recent layoff in January. As a leader, I’ve learned to embrace the ever-changing nature of the fashion industry—and business in general.
Challenges like this remind me that every opportunity, even those that end unexpectedly, offers a chance to learn and grow, preparing me for the next chapter. It’s essential not to take setbacks personally but to stay focused on the future, remain adaptable, and continuously seek opportunities for growth and self-improvement.
5. What's one book that has had a profound impact on your leadership so
far? Can you please briefly tell the story of how that book impacted your leadership?
The Laws Of Human Nature by Robert Greene
6. If you could only give one piece of advice to a young leader, what would you say to them?
My advice to a young person is to always lead with integrity, not emotion. Stay true to your values and ensure your decisions are grounded in fairness and professionalism. Equally important is to pursue what genuinely makes you happy—passion fuels success.
And no matter how successful you become, always stay humble. Humility will keep you grounded, foster meaningful relationships, and ensure lasting respect in both your personal and professional life.
