1. What have you found most challenging as a leader?
Being able to communicate clearly with your team, clients, vendors, partners. I love what Tony Robbins says: "To effectively communicate, we must realize that we are all different in the way we perceive the world and use this understanding as a guide to our communication with others."
2. How did you become a leader? Can you please briefly tell the story?
I became a leader through 25 years of hands-on experience, continuous learning, and a relentless pursuit of excellence. From mastering sales to navigating business development, I consistently exceeded goals and embraced challenges. Building strong relationships and staying dedicated to growth have been integral to my journey as a leader.
3. How do you structure your work days from waking up to going to sleep?
My workdays are structured for maximum productivity and flexibility. Starting at 4:30 am, I meditate and hit the gym five days a week. Working both from our office and my home office, I allocate one hour daily to reading and learning. This intentional structure allows me to be around my wife and boys while also accommodating numerous meetings with staff, team members, and clients/investors every day. The blend of focus, flexibility, and continuous learning enriches both my professional and personal life.
4. What's a recent leadership lesson you've learned for the first time or been reminded of?
A recent leadership lesson emphasized the critical need to prioritize the development of key employees. This reminder underscored the profound impact of investing in our team's growth, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and contributing to the overall success and sustainability of the company.
5. What's one book that has had a profound impact on your leadership so far? Can you please briefly tell the story of how that book impacted your leadership?
Jocko Willink's "Extreme Ownership: How U.S. Navy SEALs Lead and Win" taught me the concept of extreme ownership—taking full responsibility for a team's outcomes. I also gained insights into the importance of humility, decisiveness, and effective communication in leadership. Embracing accountability, learning from failures, and empowering teams are key takeaways from the book.
6. If you could only give one piece of advice to a young leader, what would you say to them?
Continuous learning- is crucial for all leaders because it equips us with the knowledge, skills, and mindset needed to navigate the complexities of the modern business landscape, foster innovation, and lead effectively in an ever-changing world.
