1. What have you found most challenging as a leader?

Management and nurturing effective communication within my team has been one of the most challenging aspects of my leadership career. Though these challenges can be challenging, they have also provided valuable opportunities for growth and learning. It has been integral to my leadership journey to adapt to different communication situations and continue to strive to improve our communication processes. A successful organization is built on effective communication, which is critical to the achievement of our goals and the maintenance of a healthy working environment.

2. How did you become a leader? Can you please briefly tell the story?

If I hadn't had mentors, I wouldn't be here today. I'm a product of great mentoring, great coaching.

My journey to becoming a leader was shaped by my education, experience, and personal development. The beginning of my professional career was paved by a strong educational foundation in my field, which provided me with the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed.

I have had the opportunity to work on challenging projects that have required teamwork and effective communication early in my career. I first realized my leadership abilities during these experiences. As a member of the team, I found myself taking on leadership responsibilities, whether it was coordinating tasks, offering guidance, or facilitating communication.

My career was also enhanced by the mentors and role models I encountered. My leadership style and philosophy have been shaped by their guidance and support. As I developed my leadership style, I incorporated the best practices I observed while also creating my own unique approach.

It has been my priority to adhere to the principles of ethical leadership, open communication, and a commitment to the growth and development of my team members throughout this journey. In spite of the fact that my journey to leadership has been a continuous one, it has been gratifying and fulfilling. I am eager to continue to grow and develop as a leader in the future.

3. How do you structure your work days from waking up to going to sleep?

I structure my workday so that I am as productive and balanced as possible. My morning routine is devoted to ensuring my personal well-being, planning my day's priorities, and engaging in focused work during core hours. Keeping in touch with my team regularly ensures alignment, while taking regular breaks keeps me feeling energized. In the afternoons, I work on collaborative tasks, and I conclude the day by planning. The evenings are for personal time, which allows me to reenergize. While maintaining a balance between my nocturnal tendencies and my leadership obligations, I engage in relaxing activities before a late-night sleep schedule.

4. What's a recent leadership lesson you've learned for the first time or been reminded of?

As a leader, I have recently been reminded of the importance of active listening and empathy. It is true that these qualities have always been essential, yet the fast-paced nature of modern work can sometimes result in leaders inadvertently rushing through conversations and decisions. However, I have learned that listening to my team members, understanding their perspectives, and demonstrating genuine empathy for their challenges enhances trust, boosts morale, and enhances problem-solving skills. In the ever-evolving landscape of leadership, this is a timeless lesson that requires continuous reinforcement.

5. What's one book that has had a profound impact on your leadership so far? Can you please briefly tell the story of how that book impacted your leadership?

An important book that I have found to have had a profound impact on my leadership is "Unposted Letters" by Mahatria Ra. Throughout the book, you will find insightful letters that offer insights into life, personal growth, and leadership.

I resonated deeply with one particular letter in the book. There were several important points discussed, including the power of influence and how true leaders inspire and empower others through the example of their own character and actions, rather than through authority or control. Leaders are expected to have positive influence on those they lead and to leave a lasting impression on those they lead.

"Unposted Letters" reminded me that leadership is more than just achieving organizational goals; it is about positively influencing the lives of those under your leadership. I was reinforced in my belief that leadership is a privilege as well as a responsibility, and I was inspired to lead with authenticity, compassion, and a genuine desire to make a positive difference in the lives of my team members. I have continued to find this book to be an inspiration and a reminder of how profound an influence a leader can have on those he leads.

6. If you could only give one piece of advice to a young leader, what would you say to them?

My advice to a young leader would be this: "Don't suffer fools, and never try to impress; just express." Staying true to your principles and values is crucial in leadership. Be diligent in rejecting incompetence and unethical behavior, and strive to convey your vision, ideas, and leadership style in a genuine and honest manner. Respect and trust will be earned by maintaining integrity and authenticity, which are more valuable than trying to impress others.

7. What is one meaningful story that comes to mind from your time as a leader, so far?

My focus has been on positive leadership examples, but I can certainly share a cautionary tale about toxic leadership.

During the early stages of my career, I encountered a leader who demonstrated toxic behaviors that negatively impacted the team and the organization. As a leader, this individual was highly manipulative, controlling, and prone to belittling his colleagues in public. Despite the team's success, he failed to acknowledge others' contributions.

It resulted in a plummet in team morale, a rise in employee turnover, and a stifling of creativity and innovation. As a result of the leader's behavior, the work environment became toxic and tense.

A noteworthy aspect of this experience is the valuable lesson it taught me about the destructive power of toxic leadership. In order to be a successful leader, humility, empathy, and respect are essential. Furthermore, it emphasized the important role leaders play in shaping organizational culture as well as the long-term impact their behavior can have on a team's performance and well-being.

It has inspired me to be vigilant in my own leadership journey, to constantly self-reflect, and to seek feedback to ensure that I never unintentionally display toxic behaviors. Leaders should strive to create a positive, empowering work environment, where team members feel valued, heard, and motivated to do a good job.
