I have bee a Residence Hall dean for 31 years and Principal for 6 years.
1. What have you found most challenging as a leader in the education sector?
Conducting teacher evaluations that help a teacher grow.
2. How do you structure your work days from waking up to going to sleep?
Personal devotion time, exercise, emails at work, meetings, Turn off school at 6pm (if possible), family time, bed time.
3. What's the most recent significant leadership lesson you've learned?
When on the job or with someone, be present.
4. What's one book that has had a profound impact on your leadership so far? Can you please briefly tell the story of how that book impacted your leadership?
"Courage" by Gus Lee. It shows the benefits of facing your challenges with courage. Hiding from the challenges does not work.
5. How do you find and keep great leaders in the education sector?
Networking with colleagues. Once you find a great leader, empower them to do their job.
6. What's most important as a leader in the education sector for developing a culture of wellbeing in your staff and students?
Communicating mission.
7. What is one meaningful story that comes to mind from your time as a leader in the education sector so far?
Be clear about your mission. People love to follow a leader with a clear "Why" ( as Simon Sinek says".
