I was invited to become a member of the board of MontroseAccess in 2003

My professional work day time finishes at around 5 or 6 pm, then I make time for mentoring, community and professional organisations from 5-8pm, then evening family time after that
4. What's the most recent significant leadership lesson you've learned?
You need time to build new relationships when undertaking a new role as its about the people, not the position
5. What are some of the keys to doing governance well in a organisation?
Taking time to reflect on positive corporate values and relate them to everyday situations but also understanding your teams and getting to know people so that you can lead, support, listen and learn
6. How do you differentiate between the role of board member and the roles of CEO or executive team member of a organisation?
Board members listen, provide direction and strategy and advise based on their experiences, whereas the executive team must manage the projects and staff to implement the advice and strategy
7. What is one meaningful story that comes to mind from your time as a board member so far?
Meeting the staff and volunteers of organisations who are so passionate about their work for disability, sports and design groups who like to share their work and where you can learn so much about gratitude and perspective in relating their experiences to work in leadership of companies and government agencies.
